ACES reach semi-finals of USSSA President's Day NIT!!!

Big League Dreams-Riverside

The ACES played good baseball this weekend and made it to the semi-final game of the USSSA President's Day NIT. The team faced a huge challenge when they had to play the Sluggers with 8 players after one of their players got ejected in the top of the 1st for not sliding at the plate. The boys jumped out to a 3-0 lead and kept the lead for the first two innings while playing with just two outfielders. The boys showed a lot of fight & heart but eventually, the Sluggers capitalized on the two man outfield by having Texas leaguer after Texas leaguer fall in unmanned areas. Maybe one day we will get another shot at the Sluggers with a full squad-until we meet again...

Final Scores:
ACES 1 - San Diego Swarm 4
ACES 7 - SF Valley Cats 4
ACES 4 - STC Sluggers 9
ACES 18 - Cypress Stars 11
ACES 4 - STC Sluggers 8

Veteran's Day NIT -ACES go 1-2...

The ACES played 17 solid innings of baseball in their three games this weekend. On the down side, they had two really bad innings with breakdowns on the mound and defensively. However, the 17 quality innings of baseball out of 19 reinforced the high level of play the team is capable of and left the coaching staff feeling good about the team's overall progress. Injuries to two of the teams top pitchers have also been a factor but has led to opportunities for other pitchers to step up.

Final Scores:

ACES 1 - Real Deal 9
ACES 6 - Tustin Knights 3
ACES 4 - IE Elite 12

ACES represent SoCal Baseball well in Cooperstown - Finish 5th!!!

August 1, 2009 - August 6, 2009
Cooperstown, New York

The SoCal ACES ended their first year of action by placing 5th at the National Cooperstown Tournament of Champions! The boys earned the #4 seed by playing a PERFECT DAY of baseball on the final day of pool play by beating Summit Storm, New Jersey 22 - 0 and the Levittown Northstars, New York 12 - 0 on Tuesday 8/4/09. The two shut-outs catapulted the ACES from the #6 seed to the #4 seed. As it turned out, that placed the ACES in the toughest part of the bracket with the #1 seed - Huntington Beach Clippers and the 5-1 New York Triplets team. Nonetheless, the boys worked hard to earn the #4 seed!

The ACES took care of business Wednesday morning in their first elimination game by beating the Northshore Nighthawks of Illinois 17 -5. That set up a showdown with another 6 win - 1 loss team, the Triple Cities Triplets of New York in the quarter-final game Wednesday night. As was the case every game before that, the ACES faced the opposing teams top pitcher and unfortunately this time, the ACES could muster no offense as the New York pitcher kept the boys off-balance with a hefty dose of curve balls and an above average fast ball.

The ACES definitely made a name for themselves in NYC and the team and coaching staff received A LOT of POSITIVE feedback about the teams play, sportmanship and attire (we were definitely the sharpest looking team out there!) Overall, the team finished with 6 wins and 2 losses but the week of competitive baseball left everybody feeling optimistic about next years team as the ACES have made HUGE progress since getting together a year ago. With the addition of a few key players, the ACES will continue to win Championships and be a tough opponent that plays a high-grade of competitive baseball!!!

Game Results:
ACES 9 - Westchester Wildcats, PA 8; ACES 1 - Houston Wildcats, TX 3; ACES 16 - Danville Oaks, CA 4

ACES 10 - Northshore Nighthawks, IL 2; ACES 22 - Summit Storm, NJ 0; ACES 12 - Levittown, NY 0

ACES 17 - Northshore Nighthawks, IL 5; ACES 0 - Triple Cities Triplets, NY 9

ACES reach Championship game of the USSSA Big League Dreams Challenge!
3/29/09: West Covina BLD - Angels Stadium

The SoCal ACES had another successful tournament as they reached the Championship game of the USSSA Big League Dreams Challenge. The ACES dropped a close 4-1 game to the only MAJOR team in the tournament - the Chino Hills Storm. The ACES continue to play solid baseball and are in every game they play. After a shaky first inning where they gave up three runs, the ACES pitching staff stymied the Storm hitters over the final 5 2/3 innings but many of the ACES hard hit balls were right at the Storm defense and the ACES were limited to just three hits. The boys continue to gel as a team in preparation for their August trip to Cooperstown, NY.

Game Results:
ACES 6 - Long Beach Heat 3
ACES 3 - East LA A's 1
ACES 4 - Chino Hills Storm 8
ACES 6 - Camarillo Pirates 3 (Semi-Final Game)
ACES 1 - Chino Hills Storm 4 (Championship Game)
